The appointed scientists will work at CiMUS, CiQUS or CiTIUS for the next two years, within a research environment which hosts 16 large European collaborative projects and about 500 researchers, including 5 ERC Grants.

The International Postdoctoral Program of the University of Santiago de Compostela has just launched a public call offering up to 6 postdoctoral positions, aimed to hire new researchers for any of the three centers of Campus Vida’s Singular Research Centers Network (SRCN), involving the following areas:

A Life Sciences environment

‘Campus Vida’ is a strategic initiative of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), intended to support the excellence of scientific and technological research in the areas of Life Sciences and Technology. Appointed as one of the eight Spanish International Campuses of Excellence, it promotes a research organization model that enables the development of the best multidisciplinary frontier research, as well as the permanent collaboration with the healthcare sector and biotech companies, in order to become a growth vector in both social and economic terms.

One of the major players to achieve this goal is the Singular Research Centers Network (SRCN), a key element in the areas of Medicine (CiMUS), Chemistry (CiQUS) and Information Technology (CiTIUS), whose purpose is to attain both academic and research excellence. These research centers host about 500 researchers –including 5 ERC Grants- and 16 large European collaborative projects, and their operating model is based on self- demanding, clearly differentiated from classic university structures.

All these centers work coordinated towards the development of a cooperative and transdisciplinary research in strategic areas, committed to scientific excellence and transferring of knowledge to society.

CiMUS: molecular medicine and chronical diseases

CiMUS hosts 29 Principal Investigators (PIs), including 2 ERC and Human Frontiers grantees, as well as more than 50 postdocs and over 120 PhD students who published around 150 papers/year, with an aggregated impact factor close to 1.000. The PIs publish each year in numerous papers in the most relevant journals in the biomedical field, such as Nature, Science, Nat Med, Nat Genet, Cell, Cell Metabolism, Gastroenterology, etc. The center’s funding sources include a large number of EU-funded projects, and one of its strengths is the close collaboration with pharma and biotech industries.

CiQUS: biological chemistry and molecular materials

CiQUS hosts 34 PIs (including 3 ERC grantees), 30 postdocs and over 100 PhD students, who publish around 100 JCR papers/year, with an average impact factor of 7,0 (2016). Since 2013 they have published over 50 papers in top-ranked journals with IF>10, obtaining 3,6 million EUR/year from competitive R&D funds (30% international). Throughout 2013-2016, CiQUS researchers have also obtained 10 granted patents (2 of them licensed) and collaborated in 3 new spin-offs.

CiTIUS: information technology

32 PIs work currently at CiTIUS, all of them selected by an external scientific advisory board, and together with a scientific staff of around 100 researchers. Since its creation in 2011, this center’s scientists have published more than 200 JCR papers and participated in more than 60 R&D projects, most of them in collaboration with the industry. CiTIUS researchers have also promoted 3 new spin-offs.
